Cooking with gas—words that speak volumes. Everyone loves cooking with gas.
At Plumb1 Industries, we’re busy installing gas stoves, ovens and water heating every week for residents and businesses on the Sunshine Coast.
For immediate control over cooking temperatures, gas is really a gas and everything else really is not.
Gas has been a source for heating for a very long time. The Chinese were using crude bamboo pipes as early as 500 B.C. to direct natural gas to where they could use it boil seawater in order to create drinkable water.
In the more recent past, gas was used to light the streets of cities. But it wasn’t until pipeline infrastructure was put in place that gas finally found a place in our homes.
You no longer need to wait for gas lines to be laid in your street because we now have LPG, or Propane, to fuel your gas appliances.
The ability for gas to provide instant heat is a runaway winner. But it also means that your gas fittings need to be installed and maintained to the highest standards.
Gas leaks cannot be ignored. They need swift attention.
At Plumb1 Industries, it’s our business to ensure safe and professional gas installations. As your gas fitter Sunshine Coast-based and ready to show up when you need us, we know where problems occur and how to fix them fast.
Following are some facts about gas to help you deal with what can be a dangerous fuel.
Hidden Dangers
The gas we all use for heating and cooking has additives in it so we can smell it. Without these additives, household gases would be all but undetectable.
Leaks in gas pipes can be too small to be seen with the naked eye. Joins, especially, are prone to tiny cracks that would allow gases to escape.
When natural gas or propane is burned incompletely, an unwelcome byproduct is carbon monoxide (CO).
A sign of incomplete combustion is a yellow flame, whereas a blue flame indicates healthy burning.
CO is a toxic gas. To make matters worse, it has no smell and, being more dense than the air, can pool close to the floor. It can be present in large quantities without anybody knowing.
Good ventilation helps. But air conditioning alone could leave heavier gases relatively undisturbed.
Spot the Signs
As a gas fitter Sunshine Coast residents and businesses trust, we strongly recommend installing CO alarms. We also recommend getting your gas fittings inspected regularly.
Carbon monoxide can be produced by a number of sources, not just your bbq and cooker.
CO can build up gas is ignited and even small traces of it can build up if the flues become blocked, or if the system is faulty.
Soot or staining around your heating appliance, is a possible indicator of CO.
On no account, use heaters meant for external use inside your house. And understand the accreditation a licensed gas fitter undergoes is robust for a reason. Using gas is safe when the necessary precautions have been taken.
